For SixSeeds, Family Friendly Video Store Is Public Service

In an admittedly unconventional move, SixSeeds officially acquired a video store in a Boston suburb. In spite of the declining video rental market, the organization sees great potential to use this store to promote their cause of family-based service.
WINCHESTER, Mass. –  In an admittedly unconventional move, the non-profit SixSeeds has officially acquired a video store in this Boston suburb.  The charity dedicated to fostering family-based service and giving sees opportunity for its growth in the declining video rental market.

“With the sad news that our local video store was going out of business, we spotted an opportunity to make lemonade out of lemons.  SixSeeds Video will foster a sense of community by providing families a safe and friendly place to visit for entertainment as well as the peace of mind knowing that renting Lego Star Wars for the Wii will ultimately go to a good cause,”  said Jean Kingston, who founded SixSeeds with her husband John.

SixSeeds (www.sixseeds.org) is entering the video rental business for three main reasons:

1.    It's a service project to save a community gathering spot and valued resource.
2.    The downtown location helps promote SixSeed's core mission to a new audience.
3.    Profits from SixSeeds Video will be donated to charity.

SixSeeds encourages families to participate together in service projects and in making charitable donations in their local communities, across the nation and overseas.  SixSeeds promotes family-based giving and service as a way for parents to teach children the values of generosity and service.

SixSeeds Video provides movies and games for rent in a family-friendly atmosphere.   All profits will be directed to charity, giving customers added incentive to continue patronizing the video store which has been a downtown fixture for years.  The friendly acquisition of the former Video Horizons was finalized July 1.

While continuing the video store is partly a community project, the store will help promote SixSeeds' philanthropic mission.  A kiosk will showcase the work of SixSeeds and offer families suggestions on how to engage in service projects and charitable giving.
